Choosing a Tattoo Studio

Once you have completed the task of diligent deliberation and concluded you do want to go ahead and get a tattoo, you will need to locate a suitable tattoo studio. So, how do you choose a tattoo studio and artist? There are numerous factors to consider. Personal recommendation can be of great benefit, but you should attach greater importance to your own decisions and choices.

Does the studio or artist offer exactly the type of work you seek? Some artists develop a reputation for performing a particular type of work or design, so try to ascertain whether the artist in question has significant experience in doing precisely the type of work you wish to have done.

Impeccable cleanliness is a must. Visit the studio on several occasions and get a feel for the level of cleanliness. Also determine whether the tattoo artist is professionally qualified, whether he possesses any additional artistic qualifications and is registered with the appropriate licensing authorities. Be sure that the artist has and uses all the recognized professional standards of cleanliness including the autoclave for surgical sterilization and the correct handling of inks and sterilization of palettes. When visiting, be sure to approach the artist with any questions you might have about his profession and the way he works and try to determine whether you would be comfortable working with him. The consummate professional tattooist is very heavily invested in cleanliness and safety, almost maniacally so.

Be sure to visit several studios before making your decision. Although cost may feature prominently in your ultimate decision, it should not be the sole factor, nor should it eclipse other important considerations of health and safety. Also bear in mind that some of the higher end studios might be way beyond your budget but might not necessarily offer a commensurate level of workmanship, especially if your design is not of a particularly high level of complexity.
